Book Review: Gone Girl

I'm not usually one for going for a book that everyone else is reading, but on some occasions, I can't help but give one a go when I hear it mentioned wherever I go. The culprit is Gone Girl. I think this had mixed reviews in terms of it's ending, but I'll get to that!

Gone Girl is a thriller about a marriage that has gone completely wrong. One morning, the day of Nick and Amy's fifth wedding anniversary, Amy goes missing. As the story unravels and the flashbacks in Amy's diary unravel an extremely worrying relationship with her husband, you begin to wonder, has Nick murdered Amy? After all, he does think about the slope and shape of his wives head... But you're always left wondering, is Nick capable of something this awful? As more secrets unravel and the pressure on Nick from the town, the police and Amy's parents gets more intense, Nick's life is going from bad to worse. And then things get even more interesting...

I can't deny it, this completely gripped me. I was desperate to know what happens next. Gillian Flynn has meticulously created a novel which is not only filled with suspense, but her psychological knowledge means she has written a book which is totally engaging, compelling and down-right clever!

Downside for me? It's ending. I was completely disappointed with this. Gone Girl is definitely about the journey and not the destination. As the book has recently been launched as a film, I was wanting to watch it after I'd read the book, but after discovering the disappointing end, I'm not sure I'll bother.

Have you read Gone Girl? If so, what did you think? Would you recommend any of Gillian Flynn's other novels?

  2. This book was incredible! One of the best I've ever read. The end really was just awful ... but I feel like it made sense for them and their horribly dysfunctional relationship.

You should absolutely see the film!!! It was great ... although sadly the ending wasn't different. I must admit, I did hope for a moment that it would change!

Very cute blog, so glad I stumbled upon it! :)
