Summer reading: The Shock of the Fall

I know they say don't judge a book by it's cover, and until now I disagreed completely. I was one of those who picked up a book because the cover appealed to me. And that makes sense. You're not gonna pick up a book which looks darn boring, are you? 
So when I came across The Shock of the Fall, and picked it up, it was because the cover appealed to me. After reading the blurb, which was terribly intriguing, I purchased it. 
The Shock of the Fall is written from the perspective a boy named Matthew, whose brother dies when he's 13. The book begins introducing the brother Simon and it all seems quite sweet and light hearted. But as the book goes on, and it is clear Matthew has now grown up, it all becomes slightly weird. It's slightly difficult to follow, and you're not always sure what's going on. But this has been done on purpose, to represent Matthew's personality and how Simon's death has affected him. 
Although, the book did capture my emotions, I can't say I really enjoyed it. It wasn't one of those books I was desperate to pick up and couldn't put down. It was o-k. If you're looking for an easy-to-read, summer book, look elsewhere!
