Lately I've Been Loving: Non-Beauty Faves #1
I'm quite the creature of habit when it comes to everyday life kinda things, which is why I cannot commit to a Monthly favourites post, because I just don't discover that many things to tell y'all about. But of course, there are things that just get me goin', so I thought I'd share a few with you.
First off is dried figs. Now then guys and girls, don't knock 'em till you've tried them. They may look pretty darn ugly, but boy oh boy, they sure do taste good. Plus, they have many health benefits, such as lowering the risk of cancer, reducing the risk of high cholesterol and heart disease! They are also super filling, I love to have two of these when I'm feeling a bit peckish mid-afternoon (yanno what I was saying about creature of habit?). Because they are sweet, they curb my sweet tooth cravings for Cadbury chocolate and jelly sweets, and they will keep me filled up until dinner time. I recently introduced these to a friend, who loved them so much she binge ate 5 one evening, I probably wouldn't recommend that ;) (she won't thank me for telling you this story, but I found it pretty funny). My my, who knew one person could say so much about figs?
During the Summer, I went to the gym about four times per week, and I loved it. I mostly took part in classes such as spin, zumba, body conditioning and body balance. But of course now I'm back in Amsterdam, these facilities aren't so available to me. But instead of going back into the sluggish routine that I had going on before I went home, I've decided to do something about it. I've had quite a few days off uni, so it means I'm at home a lot studying, so I've been either going on jogs, long walks or just a walk around the block if I haven't much time, to get some fresh air and a little bit of exercise.
Which brings me onto my next favourite, which is a recent discovery, and I gotta tell you, I'm obsessed. It's a little app on my iPhone called Moves. It simply counts the number of steps you do each day. It will tell you how many kilometres you've walked, how many minutes and the calories you burned (I don't advise you turn calorie count on - you'd be saddened to know how little calories you burn walking as many as 12,000 steps). You can also put in your height, weight and gender so that it is as accurate as it can be. The app tracks the routes you have taken, and even knows when you are in some kind of transport! Oh, and you can't trick it (my boyfriend tried - much to my annoyance - and it didn't work)! Very clever!
Another app, which kind of co-insides with my healthy (kinda) routine, is Deliciously Ella. She also has a blog, which you can go to here. It's full of healthy breakfast, snacks, smoothie and dinner ideas, which are really healthy. They are also all vegan, so great if you're vegetarian. I'm not, but I still really enjoy her recipes!!
My friends in Amsterdam are always laughing at what an English stereotype I am, always offering them tea when they come over, and I'm of course always drinking it. Which explains this granny favourite of mine, which I'm sure will be a favourite for life, I have been drinking this tea for as long as I can remember and it's Twinings, The Earl Grey Tea. By far the best Earl Grey out there! It's much more floral than the original Twinings Earl Grey, which I think most people love, and I just can't understand! I have it with one sugar and milk and it's the perfect home comfort (great with dippy biscuits too - if you're into that)!
What are your current favourites, I'd love to hear!!

Lovely favourites! My current favourites are beauty related... My new Zoeva brushes!
ReplyDeleteI've heard so many good things about them! I really need to get my hands on them!! Lilly xx
DeleteI love beauty, but I also enjoy reading non-beauty related posts. This one in particular was a very nice read! I am so glad you recommend Ella's website, I will add it to my reading list, it /she looks great! I love dried-dattes but I feel you with figs too haha! Earl Grey is my favourite tea, I should definitively check this brand (I personally really like the Saintsbury's one in the pale blue packaging).
